Discover Kāpiti’s colourful heritage in one fun day of exploration, the Discover Kapiti Heritage Day. This is the first event from the Discover Kapiti Heritage Group, which is currently made up of representatives from the seven Kāpiti museums taking part.
The event is being held 19 January 2014, the Sunday of Wellington Anniversary weekend, and will give Kāpiti locals and visitors alike the chance to discover the region’s colourful heritage in one day. Seven museums from Ōtaki to Paekākāriki will be open from 10am to 4pm to show and share Kāpiti’s moving stories.
So much of Kāpiti’s history and heritage is about movement. Warriors, whalers, missionaries, traders, bushmen and farmers, soldiers, aviators, settlers and holidaymakers all forged Kapiti’s heritage. The museums, along with the Kāpiti Heritage Trail and Ōtaki’s Pipi Trail, tell their stories. Visit extraordinary spaces from the very large to the very small in Kāpiti’s familiar places.
Entry to the Discover Kapiti Heritage Day is FREE – except at Southward Car Museum where admission charges apply.
Explore the stories of this wonderful region, with fun for all the family. Clip the replica ticket at each of the 7 museums and go in the draw to win a prize. Make a day of it!
