A small but important part of our collection relates to Peter Field. Despite his name actually being George Alexander Hughes Field, he was known as Peter. A World War Two pilot, he gained a Distinguished Flying Cross, and Bar. The occasion of him being awarded the Bar, resulted in a telegram to his father William H Field from the then Minister of Defence, Fred Jones. The Telegram is one of the archives held by the museum.
We also have a collection of Peter’s smoking pipes. One wonders if they were used for different occasions, given that one in particular is very ornate. All of the pipes exhibit signs of having been used.
Now safely stored at the museum, these precious artifacts and archives are another part of our local history preserved.
