The new exhibition is finally here – Port, Waikanae
It tells the story of the Port Family’s journey from Ireland to New Zealand and their subsequent settlement on a farm in Waikanae.
This unique history is told through household objects, clothing, archives and photographs.

See Robert Port’s travel trunk, complete with clothing, spectacles, cut-throat razor and travel bible and read about the horrific journey by ship in 1883.
Also included are children’s toys, women’s clothing complete with intricate hand made lace, fine china and even the bedroom commode.
This is first time that this family collection has been shown in its entirety.
An enjoyable look into a significant time in New Zealand’s social history.
